Lesson 4 Ruching

Usually after 6 times though the FeltLOOM I have new fabric of my own design. Art is responding. This is where your eye comes in. Look at what you have done so far. Are you ready to stop? Or does is need another run or two? If you fabrics varied in weight and some have not fully attached, you have two choices. Stop and fix it later with hand embellishing, or run it through again but risk making some of the lighter fabrics too thin. Art is responding. This is where you develop your particular vision.

I wet the new fabric and squeeze the excess water out. This creates more texture. Then, while still yet, I press it.

Laverne Zabielski, artist, designer and writer, studied fiber art with Arturo Alonzo Sandavol at the University of Kentucky, Lexington and received her MFA in writing from Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky.
