Yes, you can always buy fabric. The question is how do we make our own sustainable fabric?
This two-day workshop will focus on repurposing existing clothing and textiles whose fate is likely the landfill. Why should we buy new when fibers exist all around us that can be used creatively? This process not only eliminates stress for the planet, it provides a place to put our minds while we struggle with finding new ways of living.
We will explore how color dominates our life—not only in creating beautiful things and spaces, but as a way to tell our story. This is an experienced-based class focused on identifying your color palette and the words that resonate with you, especially regarding all that has occurred during the last few months. We ask that you visit resale shops or search your closet or attic to find clothing to repurpose for this workshop.
In our first meeting, we will discuss of what to look for in your search for repurposable fabrics and set intentions for what you hope to create. Pay attention to the colors you love and the variety of fabrics available from synthetics to natural.
In our second meeting, we will use the 72” FeltLOOM, a machine designed to mesh diverse fabrics together to create something new. Not only will you leave with a beautiful piece of fabric with a story to tell, you will be able to apply the concepts you learn to the stories you tell in other areas of your life.
The work you start here can be continued in hourly private sessions with Laverne. See Laverne’s Private FeltLOOM lesson listing for more details.
